1. IEPFA launches Saksham Niveshak

  • IEPFA stands for Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
  • Saksham Niveshak is a 100-day campaign to facilitate dividend claims and KYC Updates.
  • It runs from 28 July 2025 to 6 November 2025.
  • This campaign aims to empower shareholders regarding unclaimed dividends by updating the nomination details and KYC.

NOTE: The IEPFA under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs also launched a new initiative, Niveshak Shivir, in collaboration with SEBI in Pune in 2025.

MOUs

1. MOU between Reliance and ONGC

  • The 3 companies, Reliance, ONGC, and BP Exploration Ltd, signed a joint operating agreement for the Saurashtra block, located off India’s western coast.
  • The block area is 5454 sq km and classified as Category-II Basins.

National News

1. 4 Foreign Universities in India

  • The Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, issued Letters of Intent (LOIs) to the 4 foreign universities.
  • These 4 universities are Western Sydney University, Victoria University, La Trobe University from Australia, and the University of Bristol from the UK.
  • The announcement was made at the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam in New Delhi on the completion of five years of the National Education Policy 2020.
  • The existing campuses in GIFT City are Deakin University and the University of Wollongong.
  • University of Southampton in Gurugram, Haryana.

2. Banking Laws Amendment Act 2025

  • The Banking Laws Amendment Act 2025 came into effect from August 1, 2025.
  • It includes the five major banking legislations.
  • It also includes the 19 Amendment, spanning the RBI Act 1934, Banking Regulation Act 1949, SBI Act 1955, Banking Companies Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings Act 1970, and 1980.
  • Sections 3,4,5,15,16,17,18,19,20 of the Banking Laws Amendment Act 2025 come into force.

Redefinition of Substantial Interest

  • It increased from 5 Lakh to 2 Crore, which was fixed in 1968.

Director Tenure in Cooperative Banks

  • The maximum tenure for directors, excluding the chairman and whole-time director, is extended from 8 years to 10 years.
  • Now, after the amendment, the Central Cooperative Bank director is allowed to become the State Cooperative Bank.

Transfer of Unclaimed Amount to IEPF

  • PSBs are allowed to transfer the unclaimed interest, shares, and bond redemption amounts to the IEPF (after 7 years).

Empowering Statutory Auditors

  • The bill allowed the PSBs to decide the salary of the statutory auditors. Earlier, it was done by the RBI.

Reporting and Regulating Changes

  • The bill revises the reporting timelines for banks to the RBI.
  • It includes the reporting timelines for two times in a month, which are 1st to the 15th day and 16th to the last day of the month.
  • Earlier, the bank reports to the bank on alternate Fridays.

Nomination Facility

  • Now, the account holder can make 4 nominees for their account with either simultaneous or successive nomination.
  • Whereas in the locker, the account holder can hold only 4 successive nominees.

1. World Athletics introduced the new eligibility regulations for female categories

  • World Athletics introduced the new eligibility regulations for female categories for World Ranking Competitions.
  • They are undertaken for the one-time gene test to protect the integrity of women’s sport.
  • It is a once-in-a-lifetime test for the SRY gene, which helps to determine the biological sex via a blood test.
  • It comes into effect from 1st September 2025.
  • From 13th September to 21st September 2025, the World Athletics Championship started in Tokyo, Japan.
